The country's unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7% in September from a month earlier, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show today.
The CSO said the monthly unemployment rate for men in September was 4.8%, down from 4.9% in August but up from the rate of 4.1% recorded in September of last year.
The monthly jobless rate for women was 4.5%, unchanged from August and up from 4.2% in September 2024.
Meanwhile, the monthly youth unemployment rate was 12.2%, up from a revised rate of 12.1% the previous month.
Today's figures show that the seasonally adjusted number of people unemployed stood 138,200 in September, compared with 138,600 in August.
There was an increase of 18,900 in the seasonally adjusted number of people unemployed in September of this year compared to the same month last year, it added.
Kate English, the chief economist at Deloitte Ireland, said that so far this year Ireland has shown a resilient labour market - despite the volatile external environment.
The economist noted that latest forecasts from the Central Bank indicate the unemployment rate will sit at 4.6% this year, before rising closer to 5% in 2026 and 2027.
"Employment reached a new record high in the second quarter of 2025 and was up 2.4% annually," Kate English said.
"However, the pace of employment growth is expected to moderate as we move into 2026. This is supported by a fall in job postings and job vacancy. The extent of this moderation is important to monitor," she added.
