Coca-Cola is once again the number one brand in Ireland, the latest Checkout Top 100 Brands for 2025 list shows, holding the title for 21 years in a row.

The index, produced by Checkout magazine in partnership with NIQ Ireland (formerly Nielsen), is based on branded value sales across the Irish grocery sector, making it the most accurate barometer of the biggest-selling brands in the marketplace.

In compiling the report, NIQ Ireland measures the sales performance of over 5,000 brands from over 200 product classes.

Checkout said that Coca-Cola is not the only brand enjoying longevity, as the latest top ten include all the same brands as last year, with some movement among the brands.

Apart from Coca-Cola, five brands in the top ten held on to the same spot as last year. Tayto, however, moved down one place to fourth position, as Cadbury Dairy Milk dethroned the crisp brand to take third place.

Further down the top ten, Red Bull and Brennans also swapped positions, with Red Bull taking seventh place this year and Brennans falling to eighth. Checkout said that Red Bull's rise is consistent with an increased interest in energy drinks, as evidenced by Monster being ranked in fifth position for the second year in a row.

Checkout noted that Irish brands, as always, made a significant mark on the top 100, making up 30% of the top ten.

Keelings made the biggest leap of any Irish brand, rising 20 places from number 41 up to 21. Crisp brand Keoghs rose by ten places - from 56 to 46 - while food brand Kerrygold rose by seven places from 43 to 36. Deep River Rock also climbed by seven places, from number 26 to number 19.

Today's index also shows that international brands made big gains, with Kellogg's Rice Krispies Squares moving up the rankings by 13 places to enter the top 100 for the first time, at number 95. Detergent brand Persil also moved up by 13 places, from number 68 to number 55.

Two Mars brands - Galaxy and Maltesers - were also on an upward trajectory, as Galaxy rose by 11 spots to claim the 33rd ranking and Maltesers jumped by eight places, to number 38. Kinder, Nestlé KitKat and Nestlé Aero also moved up the rankings by six places each.

Four brands made their way into the top 100 for the first time this year. Irish high-protein ready meals brand PUREPOWER Nutrition made its debut on the list at number 78, while another Irish brand - Ballygowan Hint of Fruit - also made it into the top 100 this year.

Checkout said that new formulations and flavours helped drive the Kellogg's Rice Krispie Squares brand from outside the rankings last year, at number 108, to claim the number 95 position this year, while Cadbury Crunchie just made the cut at 100th place.

Maev Martin, editor of Checkout, said the Checkout Top 100 Brands for 2025, in association with NIQ Ireland, shows that Irish shoppers are still opting for the usual favourites, including many sweet treats.

"However, the entry of high-protein ready meals brand PUREPOWER Nutrition and of the low-calorie, sugar-free Ballygowan Hint of Fruit brand shows that Irish shoppers are increasingly seeking healthy brands in convenient formats," Ms Martin said.

"Ireland's leading fast moving consumer brands (FMCG) brands continue to set the pace - earning consumer trust through quality, innovation, and agility," Ruth Lloyd-Evans, senior business insights manager, retailer services, NIQ Ireland, said.

"Their strategic focus drives growth and deepens brand loyalty in a competitive market," he added.
