Emerald Park expects the installation of over 290 new solar panels across its theme park will save the company over €30,000 annually in energy costs.

It said savings could amount to as much as €1 million over the panels' lifespan, based on current energy prices.

The panels will generate 127,504 kWh of clean energy per year, enough to power the entire park and zoo solely on solar energy for a full month.

The move is part of a new five-year sustainability partnership with Flogas, and will reduce Emerald Park's carbon footprint by 37 tonnes of CO2 annually.

"We are delighted with this partnership, as it allows us to take meaningful action to reduce our carbon footprint, protect the environment while still delivering unforgettable experiences for our guests, said Charles Coyle, Managing Director of Emerald Park.

John Rooney, Managing Director at Flogas said the project demonstrates the benefits that solar energy can provide to the leisure sector.

"Flogas is committed to supporting businesses in their transition to clean, renewable energy," he said.

In addition to the solar panel installation, the partnership includes the installation of 20 electric vehicle (EV) charging units in the park's car park.
