SIPTU will hold a delegate conference for its health division in Wexford today with privatisation, outsourcing and staffing levels among the topics to be discussed.

The first motion to be debated calls for the establishment of a safe staffing framework model for all grades of staff working within the health service.

Another motion that will be voted on by delegates demands that the Government doubles the investment in the ambulance service and calls for the service to remain within the public sector.

Other issues for debate relate to areas such as the professional registration for Health Care Assistants in Ireland, the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and the role played by Health and Social Care Professionals (HSCPs).

There are also motions covering topics such as pensions, care for older people and the intellectual disability sector.

"The theme of our conference is Stronger Together: One Health Service for All," said SIPTU Health Divisional Organiser, Kevin Figgis.

"We will be exploring how we strengthen our union through organising and density building, because only a strong, united voice for public and private healthcare workers can ensure we develop a fairer future for all," Mr Figgis said.

HSE chief executive Bernard Gloster is among those who will address the conference.
