Bank of Ireland has appointed Billy O'Connell as its Chief Strategy Officer and he will join the bank's executive committee.

Mr O'Connell has worked at Accenture for 30 years, and has served in a range of senior leadership roles working with clients across the full financial services ecosystem.

He has worked in all areas of banking - including retail, SME and corporate - and brings to this role a depth of experience in strategy development and delivery, technology (including data and AI), transformation, and change management.

Most recently, as head of Accenture's Financial Services in Ireland (2019 – 2024), he led the strategy to diversify and grow the business delivering a wide range of commercial and technology elements.

Myles O'Grady, Group Chief Executive at Bank of Ireland, said that Mr O'Connell has been immersed in financial services for three decades, devising and delivering complex strategic projects for a range of clients across Ireland and the UK.

"This is a pivotal time for Bank of Ireland as we deliver the final year of our current three year strategy and work on our next strategic steps. In his role as Chief Strategy Officer, Billy's deep expertise and strong commercial acumen - across strategy, transformation, and change - will support the group as it future-proofs its business for the years ahead," Mr O'Grady added.
