Pricing is a strong determining factor for holidaymakers, according to a travel sentiment survey by Click&Go Holidays, which show almost two-thirds of parents would take their children out of school, if it meant saving on holiday prices.
Overall prices for holidays in 2024 increased by 4% compared to 2023.
The survey found sun holidays are also the most popular booked with Click&Go Holidays for 2025, as chosen by 53% of holidaymakers.
The second most-booked holiday type for 2025 is a cruise holiday, while a city break is the third most-booked choice for the coming year.
Over a quarter (29%) of those surveyed have already booked their holidays for 2025.
A slightly larger percentage, 31%, said they were instead waiting for the January sale to book their trip for this year. January is traditionally the single busiest month for holiday bookings.
Overall, a large majority (85%) said that by December 31, 2024, they had already started planning or had booked their holidays for 2025.
"The outlook for holiday bookings for 2025 looks good," said Paul Hackett, CEO of Click&Go.
"The market is robust, the passenger CAP at Dublin Airport is paused and prices seem relatively stable. Consumers are value-conscious; that is behind the growth in cruise holidays and also explains why a majority of parents are happy to take their children out of school for the family holiday."
