ePower is reminding homeowners interested in getting solar panels that the SEAI grant designed to support their installation will be cut from New Year's Day.
From January 1, the maximum value of the grant will drop from €2,100 to €1,800.
The grant can be applied for through the government-funded Solar PV Scheme, and is open to homeowners including private landlords.
ePower pointed out that works must be completed within eight months of grant approval.
In order to qualify for the existing funding amounts available, you need to submit a completed application through the SEAI website - ahead of the New Year's Eve deadline.
"Christmas is a busy time of year so it’s easy to put an application form on the long finger, but we would strongly encourage anyone interested in getting solar panels in the first eight months of 2025 to make the most of the available supports," said John O'Keeffe, CEO ePower.
"While solar panels’ long-term benefits and savings ultimately outweigh the upfront costs, it’s definitely worth going through the application process while the current grant offering is on the table," he added.
According to the ISEA (Irish Solar Energy Association) Scale of Solar 2024 Report, the number of homes in Ireland equipped with solar panels in 2024 had exceeded 94,000 by the time of publication, up from under 60,000 in the previous year.
The report estimates that there is an average of 65 installations on homes in Ireland per day.
