Irish ports handled 12.3 million tonnes of goods in the three months from July, August, and September, a increase of 4% compared with the same time last year, new Central Statistics Office figues show today.
Goods forwarded from Irish ports amounted to 3.8 million tonnes in the third quarter of this year, a slight decrease on the third quarter of 2023.
Nearly 8.5 million tonnes of goods were received, up 6% on the same time last year.
Today's CSO figures show the total number of vessels that arrived in the seven main Irish ports - Bantry, Cork, Drogheda, Dublin, Rosslare, Shannon and Waterford - in the third quarter rose by 2% when compared with the third quarter of 2023.
Dublin Port accounted for 60% of all vessel arrivals in Irish ports and for 52% of the total tonnage of goods handled in the three month period.
Great Britain & Northern Ireland accounted for 33% of the total tonnage of goods handled in the main ports by region of trade, while EU countries made up 48% of the total tonnage of goods handled in the main ports.
