Lidl Ireland has announced a new supply deal with Co Monaghan-based supplier McCaghey Turkeys which will see its fresh and pre-prepared Irish turkeys stocked in all 223 Lidl stores across the island of Ireland.

Lidl Ireland predicts that shoppers in its stores will buy more than 90,000 turkeys this Christmas.

Established in 1951, McCaghey Turkeys is now Ireland's largest family-owned turkey processor, with all of its turkey farms fully Bord Bia approved.

McCaghey Turkeys has been suppling Lidl Ireland since 2009. Since then, the partnership has grown to see the contract with Lidl expand into new product lines and increased supply of its best-selling turkey products.

Over the past, five years Lidl have grown their McCaghey's seasonal range of turkey products from 14 to 22 this year.

McCaghey Turkeys has enjoyed strong growth in the sector and is now a major employer in Co Monaghan, with a team of 150 staff.

Pat McCaghey, McCaghey Turkeys, said the company has been operating for three generations.

"We're very proud to have grown the business from a farm of just nine birds to becoming Ireland’s largest family-owned turkey processor. What has remained from day one is our commitment to guaranteeing the finest and freshest poultry products and we know that when it comes to quality and taste, we offer the best of the best," he added.

Robert Hatton, Buying Director at Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, said the retailer is dedicated to supporting local suppliers and providing the very highest quality Irish produce to its customers at market leading value.

"This latest supply deal in our ongoing partnership with McCaghey Turkeys reflects that commitment and we’re very proud to be able to offer 100% Irish turkeys farmed to the highest standards," he added.
