Aldi has opened its second store in Tullamore, Co Offaly, which is creating 30 permanent jobs in the county.

The new store represents an investment of over €9.8m in the area, bringing the total investment by Aldi in Offaly to €18.8m since opening its first store in the county in 2000.

Located on O'Connell Street in Tullamore, the store is Aldi's third in Co Offaly and is the supermarket group's 163rd store in Ireland since first arriving here 25 years ago.

The retailer employs over 76 people across its three stores in Offaly, spending over €1.5m on wages annually. It has also spent an additional €23m with its Offaly food suppliers.

Yasmin Rourke, the ALDI Tullamore Store Manager, said the new store will deliver 30 new local jobs and is testament to the retailer's ongoing commitment to providing value, choice and convenience to its Offaly customers.

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett said the new store marked a significant investment in the region.

"I believe it can ultimately prove to be a significant investment in Irish farmers too. ALDI has a long tradition of supporting Irish farmers, with all Bord Bia Quality Assured fresh meat, poultry and egg products delivered to stores daily," the Senator said.

"The new Tullamore store creates valuable local employment opportunities for Offaly, supporting the economic growth of the area with high-quality, well-paid jobs. ALDI has led the way in committing to paying a living wage to all of its employees since 2020," she added.
