New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the Agricultural Output Price Index - what farmers are paid for their produce - jumped by 19.7% in September compared to the same time last year.
The CSO said the Agricultural Input Price Index - which includes the costs for farmers - dropped by 7.4% over the same time.
Today's CSO figures show that the most significant output price increase in the 12 months to September was milk, with prices jumping 43.3%.
Potato prices rose by 15.5%, while sheep prices were up 15.5% and cattle prices gained 8.3%. Decreases were recorded in the price of eggs, which were down 3.7% while poultry dipped 1.5%.
Meanwhile, there were significant reductions in the input prices recorded for electricity, which was down 19.5%, while feed prices eased by 12.1% and fertiliser prices fell by 9.7%.
However, the cost of plant protection products rose by 4.8%.
On a monthly basis, the Agricultural Output Price Index for September went up by 3.6% when compared with August, while the Input Price Index dipped by 0.8% compared to the previous month.
