Finland's central bank said today it had started the process of recruiting a new governor as current chief Olli Rehn's seven-year term expires on July 12 next year.
A spokesperson for the Bank of Finland bank declined to comment on whether Rehn, who has served as governor since 2018, would seek a second term.
The sitting governor is a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, and is therefore a party to decisions on the monetary policy of the euro area.
A parliamentary committee will propose a candidate to the government, with the final decision to be made by the country's president, according to the bank's statement.
