An investigation has been opened by the competition regulator into suspected breaches of competition law by the healthcare software company, Clanwilliam.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said in a statement that the probe relates to the provision of Electronic Patient Record (EPR) software and services such as electronic referrals and text messaging.
"EPR software is an important tool in the healthcare sector and typically helps healthcare professionals to manage patient consultations; update, store and share patient records; process and analyse patients' clinical information; manage appointment bookings; and manage prescriptions," the CCPC said.
"Anyone who believes they may have information relevant to the CCPC’s investigation is invited to submit it by email, on a confidential basis, to competitionenforcement@ccpc.ie."
The CCPC added that a survey of GPs will also take place as part of the investigation.
In a statement, Clanwilliam said it takes its regulatory, compliance and accreditation obligations very seriously in all countries in which it operates.
It added that it is happy to co-operate with the CCPC's investigation.
Founded in Ireland, Clanwilliam employs over 1,000 people and has customers in over 20 countries.
"For over 28 years, Clanwilliam has forged successful integrations and partnerships with healthcare technology providers and work with multiple government and industry stakeholders," it said.
"From pharmacy to GP solutions, hospital to aged care, analytics and education to messaging platforms, Clanwilliam products, platforms and services help clinicians, healthcare organisations and patients across the world."
