D.O. O'Connor has been named as the new Managing Director of laya Healthcare.

Mr O'Connor is currently Deputy Managing Director of laya, and will begin his new role from 1 January next, subject to regulatory approval.

In his new role Mr O'Connor will oversee a team of 670 people and a membership base of over 705,000 customers.

Last year, AXA Ireland completed the €650m acquisition of laya. The company will begin to underwrite laya policies from the start of next year.

Mr O'Connor will succeed Dónal Clancy who has been Managing Director of laya since its establishment in 2012. Mr Clancy will take on a new role at AXA as Executive Advisor.

Meanwhile, Eoin O'Neill has been appointed to AXA as Health Director, subject to regulatory approval.

He joins AXA from Swiss Re where he was Director and Country Head for Ireland.

In his new role, Mr O’Neill will have overall responsibility for health underwriting and pricing strategy.

"AXA is the market leader in the health insurance market in Europe and the acquisition of laya gives us a strong position in this key sector in the Irish market and complements our leading positions in the retail and commercial insurance sectors," said Marguerite Brosnan, CEO of AXA Ireland.

"These appointments are a very positive step in our journey to integrate laya healthcare into our overall offering," she added.
