Retailer Penneys has completed a €4m renovation of its Wilton Shopping Centre store in Cork, which forms part of its €250m commitment to its Irish stores.
Originally opened in 2007, the revamped 31,800 square foot store now has 18 self-checkout tills as well as its traditional tills and a bigger homes, beauty and women's clothing departments.
The renovation project took three months to complete, with works taking place at night by a team of 15 contractors while the store was closed, allowing the store to continue to serve customers during the day.
Fintan Costello, Head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, said the revamped Cork store has a fresh, modern feel, and an all-important enhanced shopping experience.
"This refurbishment reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in our Irish stores and towns, with more exciting projects planned for the future," he added.
The €4m investment in Cork is part of Penneys/Primark's commitment to invest over €250m in Ireland by 2031, which includes the development, relocation and/or refurbishment of its stores across the country.
Penneys operates 38 stores in the Republic of Ireland, and is this year celebrating 55 years in business, having opened its very first store on Mary St in Dublin city centre in 1969.
