Domestic milk intake falls by 1.4% in June compared to last year - CSO

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that domestic milk intake by milk processors and co-ops here was estimated at 1.03 billion litres in June.

This marked a decrease of 13.3 million litres (1.3%) when compared with June of last year and was also 25.4 million litres (2.4%) lower when compared with the same month in 2022.

The CSO noted that fat content of milk for June was 4.01%, up from 3.98% in June 2023, while protein content went up marginally from 3.39% to 3.42%.

Today's figures also show that butter production rose from 30,600 tonnes in June of last year to 31,400 tonnes in June of this year - an increase of 800 tonnes.

Meanwhile, skimmed milk powder production was down by 1,700 tonnes, from 20,200 tonnes to 18,600 tonnes.
