New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for July eased by 100 people (0.1%) to 171,900 people from the figure in June.

The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 185,968 people for July. Of these 51.4% were men.

Today's figures show that the 25-34 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in July at 42,954 people or 23.1% of the total.

The CSO noted an increase in the number of people on the Live Register in three counties in the 12 months to July - Kildare (3.5%), Offaly (1.1%) and Laois (0.3%).

Today's figures also show there were 18,039 people benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for July, a decrease of 490 people from the previous month.

The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance.

The CSO's monthly unemployment figures for July are due to be published on Tuesday.
