Shannon Airport said a total of 974,012 passengers used the Co Clare airport in the first six months of this year, an increase of 8% on the same time last year.
The airport said it saw a boost after the resumption of Delta's daily service to New York-JFK and increased frequencies to European and UK destinations during the summer season.
Shannon operates flights to 33 destinations across Europe, the UK and the US and increased summer frequencies to nine of its European destinations including the likes of Alicante, Faro, Lanzarote and Tenerife.
Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said that Shannon Airport is on track to reach the 2 million passengers mark by the end of the year.
"As we build towards this, we remain committed to delivering a world-class experience for our customers, who are travelling from every corner of the country to fly Shannon," she said.
"Despite being in the height of the busy summer travel season, our passengers are still enjoying the famous seamless, hassle-free experience of using Shannon, where customers can get from the car park, through check-in and security in just a matter of minutes," she added.
