20% of GoCar users have given up their private car since the Covid-19 pandemic, new research shows.
The data from the car and van sharing service reveals that half of customers use the service in place of a second car.
The survey suggests that reliance on car sharing services is rising, with 60% saying they would need to buy a car if these services weren't available.
This research has been released ahead of Car Share Day on 24 July, an initiative created by Dublin City Council, alongside its mobility partners including GoCar, to promote the use of more sustainable modes of transportation around the city.
In a bid to reduce the number of private cars on our roads, GoCar has recently launched 'GoRewards', a new loyalty programme, created to reward drivers for using car sharing services.
"By placing just one GoCar in a locality, we keep approximately 30 private cars off roads," said Joe Quirke, Head of GoCar.
"Following the launch of dedicated GoCar bays in Leitrim, Tipperary and Donegal, we are now Ireland’s only car sharing service with locations in all 26 counties, demonstrating our commitment to serving communities across Ireland who want an alternative to a private car," he added.
The GoCar in-app survey was completed by 3,600 GoCar customers in May.
