New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that a total of 622,300 foreign visitors departed Ireland on overseas routes in May, an increase of 8.5% on the same time last year.
The CSO said that 34.9% of the visitors were from Great Britain, 20.2% were from the US and 7.4% were from Germany.
Today's figures show that the visitors spent a total of €810.6m in total on their trips, an increase of 29% when compared with May 2023.
The typical cost of their stay here was €1,303, which included €334 on fare, €51 on prepayments, €437 on accommodation, and €480 on day-to-day expenditure. This was up from €1,096 in May of last year.
Typically, their visit lasted 7.2 nights and the most frequent reason for their journey - 45.1% - was for holiday or leisure purposes.
50.1% of the visitors in May stayed in a hotel, while 32.9% had used family or own property as their main accommodation type. 5.7% of the visitors used guest house/bed & breakfast as their main accommodation type, while 4.6% of the foreign visitors used rented/self-catering as their main accommodation type.
The visitors stayed a total of 4,462,100 nights in the country in May, a dip of 0.3% than the same time last year.
