Irish owners of a type of high-end French-made yacht have been warned of a risk of sinking, due to problems affecting a part in the hull.
The warning was issued by the Department of Transport this morning, and concerns three models of Sun Odyssey boats made by French boatmaker Jeanneau.
All the affected boats were built between 2020 and 2022 and all are equipped with a bow thruster device that deploys out of the hull and below the water line when in use.
According to the warning there is risk of leaks due to a gluing problem around the thruster that could lead to sinking.
Boat owners are asked not to use the vessels until they are checked under the manufacturer's warranty.
The affected models are Sun Odyssey 410, 440 and 490.
A number of those boats have already undergone repair here, and any remaining owners who have not had them checked are urged to do so.
According to Jeanneau's website the recall affected a Sun Odyssey yacht that sank off the coast of Germany in March 2023.
