Spending by Revolut users increased by almost 8% in May compared with the previous month.

Almost 55 million card payments were made during the month, with close to €1.25bn spent by customers across Ireland.

The May sunshine sparked a significant rise in consumer spending on sports clubs, which jumped by close to 22% when compared with April, a rise of more than 70% on the same time last year.

Parents are also paying out more this year for sports and recreation camps for their children, with spend up 7.5% on May 2023.

There was also an increase in spending on sports apparel and sporting goods, up 13% and 12% month-on-month.

Meanwhile, consumers in Ireland were hitting the gym more often in May, with outlays on health and gym memberships rising by close to 20% compared to May and over 23% on the same time last year.
