Annual construction output falls by 12.7% in first quarter of 2024

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the volume of production in Building and Construction fell by 12.7% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same time last year.

The CSO said that the volume of production in the construction sector eased by 1.8% in the first three months of 2024 compared to the last three months of 2023.

Today's figures show that the only sector to show an annual increase in production was Residential Building, which rose by 6.9%.

But production in the Non-Residential Building sector fell by 15.3% and was down by 7.9% in the Civil Engineering sector in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2023.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CSO said the volume of production in construction fell by 1.8% between Q4 2023 and Q1 2024.

Non-Residential Building increased by 0.5%, while Residential Building was up by 8.5%, and Civil Engineering fell by 5.4% during the same period under review, the CSO added.
