The sale of bikes, clothing and tools jumped in April, as consumers get summer ready.
New spending data from AIB shows that spending in bicycle shops increased by 19%, while hardware shops saw a 9% rise in spending and clothes shops recorded a 7% increase.
But some sectors did see a fall in spending - with pubs and off licences recording a 17% drop.
Meanwhile, spending in restaurants and take aways was down 7% and hotel spend was down 3%.
"The decline in April's hospitality spend wasn’t a surprise given March had been a five weekend month and Easter fell during it," said John Brennan, Head of SME Banking at AIB.
"We expect that hospitality spend to rebound in the coming weeks and months," he added.
The latest Spend Trend reports shows that car rental was up 16% from March to April, but there was a decrease on electric vehicle charge spend, down 4% month-on-month, following a year of growth.
Overall spending was flat month-on-month and up marginally year-on-year.
The monthly data was compiled from over 70 million debit and credit card transactions in store and online during last month and has been anonymised and aggregated.
