New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for April was 174,200 people, a fall of 300 or 0.2% from March.
The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 169,497 people in April.
It noted that of the 169,497 people on the unadjusted Live Register last month, 54.8% were men.
The CSO said that three counties saw an increase in the number of people on the Live Register in April. Numbers on the Live Register in Meath rose by 5.5%, while they were up by 0.5% in Kildare and by 0.4% in Offaly.
It also said that the 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register last month, making of 23.6% of the total.
Meanwhile, there were 108,407 people on the Live Register for less than one year, 7,927 fewer people than the same month last year.
The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance.
Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April moved up to 4.4% in April from a revised rate of 4.1% in March.
The provisional figure for March had been 4.3%. Unemployment in April of last year had stood at 4.1%.
