RTÉ News has announced David Murphy as its new Economics & Public Affairs Correspondent.
Mr Murphy is currently RTÉ's Political Coverage Editor, leading a team of journalists in Leinster House and managing RTÉ's daily political coverage on digital, radio and TV platforms.
He will be responsible for reporting and providing analysis of economic issues and trends, and how they affect our lives across RTÉ News' television, radio and digital platforms.
He will also report on wider public affairs issues including major political policy initiatives and their impact on the economy and society, migration and its effects on the economy, housing policy and policy challenges and costs of dealing with climate change.
Mr Murphy was appointed as Political Coverage Editor in 2018, and was previously RTÉ's Business Editor.
"For the past six years, I've enjoyed the cut and thrust of life covering politics, and I've been fortunate enough to work with a terrific team," Mr Murphy said.
"But I've always been stimulated by a challenge, and the job of Economics & Public Affairs Correspondent offers an opportunity to delve into some key subject areas - from housing to migration to climate. And, of course, the economy has a bearing on all of them," he added.
Mr Murphy will begin his new role later this summer.
The position of Economics Correspondent was previously held by Robert Shortt, who was recently appointed as RTÉ Company Secretary.
