The chief executive of Eirgrid, Mark Foley, has stepped down from his role.
The grid operator said Martin Corrigan, Eirgrid's chief strategy officer and company secretary, has been appointed as interim chief executive.
A formal selection process is to begin shortly to find a replacement for Mr Foley, it added.
"On behalf of the Board, management and staff, I want to thank Mark for his leadership of EirGrid for the past 6 years," said Brendan Tuohy, Chairman of EirGrid.
"His commitment and contribution to the company is widely acknowledged and much appreciated."
"Mark has been instrumental in leading EirGrid through a period of growth and change and managed the country’s grid network through some challenging times. We wish him well for the future."
A spokesperson for Eirgrid confirmed Mr Foley’s retirement was effective immediately.
No reason has been given for his decision and Eirgrid declined to comment.
Mr Foley was appointed CEO of Eirgrid in 2018 and had previously been the managing director of the land solutions business at State forestry company, Coillte.
Prior to that he had been director of capital programmes at Dublin Airport Authority.
The development comes at a busy time for Eirgrid as it continues to work to ensure there is sufficient power available across the network amid supply constraints and also works to prepare Ireland’s national grid for large amounts of new renewable power to come on stream.
It also has a range of large infrastructural projects ongoing, including the Celtic Interconnector, the upgrade of cabling in Dublin and planning for a North South Interconnector.
