German manufacturers are no longer acutely affected by material shortages, with the supply situation almost back to how it was before the coronavirus pandemic, the Ifo economic institute said today.

"The supply of raw materials and intermediate products has recently seen significant improvement," said Klaus Wohlrabe, Ifo's head of surveys.

Just 10.2% of companies surveyed reported shortages in March, down from 14.6% the month before, Ifo said.

By comparison, in December 2021, the peak of supply problems for German manufacturing, that number was at 81.9%.

Broken down by sector, the proportion of companies affected by bottlenecks does not exceed 20%.

Out of computer manufacturers, currently the hardest hit, only 18.2% reported problems, followed by electrical equipment makers at 17.5%.

"The wage dispute at Deutsche Bahn has been settled and the logistics sector has adapted to the situation in the Red Sea, so there are fewer problems at present," Wohlrabe said.
