Pet food firm C&D Foods is to create 100 new jobs in counties Longford and Westmeath.

The expansion by the ABP Food Group subsidiary follows an announcement late last year of a €48m investment at its flagship facility in Edgeworthstown, which straddles the two counties.

C&D Foods is one of Europe's largest own-label pet food manufacturers and has eleven facilities across the region.

It currently employs 500 people in Ireland and a further 1,400 across Europe.

"We are pleased to follow up on the commitment we made in December for the creation of one hundred new roles and look forward to welcoming new colleagues to the business in the near term," said Declan Kennedy, general manager of C&D Foods Edgeworthstown. "The new recruits will help the company to maintain its position at the forefront of the pet food market and the recruitment will support positive economic development in the community."
