AIB customers increased their spending by 4% in February when compared to January, according to the bank's latest Spend Trend survey.

The survey - which gives an indication of national consumer trends - saw a particularly strong pick up among customers in Sligo.

The increase was weakest in Wicklow, it said.

Spending on health and beauty rose by 8%, while the bank also noted a significant increase spending on flights.

It said AIB customers spent €210m with airlines in the first two months of the year - the highest spend on record and up 10% on the same period of 2023.

Kilkenny customers had the biggest increase in spending on flights - up 18.4% year-on-year. Mayo customers increased their spending in the area by 17.1%.

According to AIB, there was also a large increase in spending in pubs by people aged between 25 and 34 during February.

However spending on electronics fell by 6%, while spending on clothing was unchanged.
