Enterprise Ireland and the IRFU have teamed up for a second time to find new products and innovations that could benefit rugby in Ireland.

They have launched a second phase of a sports innovation programme for sport tech companies, which offers financial supports and expert guidance to firms developing products and innovations with a sporting application.

Up to three firms will be selected to participate, giving them access to EI supports and mentorship.

It will also give them an opportunity to test their ideas with rugby teams in Ireland - including the national squad.

The first phase was launched in 2022, with Irish-owned motion tracking company MoveAhead one of the participants selected in that round.

In this phase, Enterprise Ireland and the IRFU are specifically looking for innovations with applications in three specific areas.

They want ideas that will help boost women's rugby in the country, improve player availability and well-being, and improve "next generation" fan insights and experiences.

"The success of the first phase of this programme was testament to the quality of Irish tech companies and their innovations, so we are delighted to continue this partnership as it will enable innovators and start-ups to gain insights at an early stage of their product or services development," Keith Brock, senior development adviser, Enterprise Ireland. "Sport is an important part of Irish society and sports technology is a growing sector in Ireland, so we're both committed and proud to support the innovation in this area."

"Technology is an important driver in the world of Irish Sport, so the IRFU is extremely excited to partner with Enterprise Ireland for a second phase of this initiative," said Scott Walker, IRFU director of strategy and technology. "We are excited to further explore and pilot emerging technologies that advance the IRFU’s priorities and align to its strategy."
