Enterprise Ireland and the companies it supports are beginning a week of intensive international activity to coincide with St Patrick's Day.

Up to 50 international business events organised by the Irish exporting agency are taking place around the world.

The US will be a particular focus, with a number of companies announcing plans to scale their investment in the huge market.

Among them is Irish biorefinery business ClonBio Group, which is planning a $500m cumulative investment in a formerly moth-balled biorefinery it bought in Jefferson in Wisconsin two years ago.

Irish climate action solutions provider Climeaction is also expanding its operations to the United States, establishing a permanent base in Boston with a team of 10 people.

Boston will also be a city where the Taoiseach will visit for a programme of engagements prior to his traditional meeting with the US President in the White House.

Also in the Massachusetts city, Irish sports technology company, Output Sports, recently opened a new office as it drives significant US growth with over 300 new clients onboarded, including clients in the NFL, WNSL, MLB, NHL and NBA.

"Irish companies are scaling internationally at an accelerated pace, establishing new presences, and making significant investments and acquisitions in international markets, to serve their growing international customer base," said Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland.

"Their growth internationally, strengthens their business, delivering job creation in Ireland and boosts Ireland’s economy."

"Irish businesses account for two-thirds of Irish jobs, and we are focused on further strengthening this position. They are the economic cornerstones in communities across Ireland."

Enterprise Ireland will also be at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas this week, along with other Irish representatives.

Among the Irish firms showcasing at the event are the moving statue developers, Giant Company, drone delivery business Manna and Imvizar, which is launching the world’s first no-code AR storytelling platform.

"We are really proud that Irish companies are proving successful at home and abroad thanks to their focus on innovation," said Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, who will be leading the Irish delegation in the US.

"Ireland’s strong industrial base, and our world-class research and development ecosystem, is helping many Irish companies to grow at a rapid pace in international markets. Ireland is a very open economy, with huge exports relative to our size. We have some extraordinary Irish companies who are the best at what they do globally."

Other Enterprise Ireland supported Irish firms targeting the US market at present are Sportskey, Version 1, SWOOP and ID-Pal.
