The Paris stock market's CAC 40 index topped 8,000 points for the first time today, driven by strong performances from leading French companies and by slowing global inflation.

The index hit 8.001,23 points in early afternoon trading in Paris, and is now up 18% from a late-October trough.

The market was also boosted by the European Central Bank today cutting its inflation forecast for the euro zone to 2% in 2025, indicating it could start easing its interest rate policies in the coming months.
