ALDI Ireland today confirmed it is opening a new €6.8m store in Granard in Co Longford next year.

The supermarket group was granted planning permission from Longford County Council for the new 1,315 square metre store today.

ALDI is aiming to open the store in summer 2025, making it the second ALDI store to open in Longford since 2000.

The new Granard shop will create up to 30 permanent jobs in the local area.

It was was one of the locations included in ALDI's €33.6m Midlands investment plan, announced in September 2023, alongside new stores in Moate in Co Westmeath, Kilcock in Co Kildare and Tullamore in Co Offaly.

If planning is approved for all four proposed new stores, they would all open by 2025, creating 120 permanent jobs across the region, with 200 jobs supported during the construction phase.

Colin Breslin, Managing Director Buying & Services at ALDI Ireland, said the new store in Granard is one of four included in the €33.6m Midlands investment plan announced last year.

"We look forward to developing and opening the store and bringing more ALDI value to Longford," he added.
