Almost 35 million passengers travelled through Dublin and Cork Airport last year, new figures show.
According to the data from daa, the operator of both airports, 31.9 million passengers passed through the terminals at Dublin Airport. It said this was in compliance with the 32m terminals cap.
"Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport are now 60% higher than they were a decade ago and there is strong demand for further growth, which would continue to bring new jobs and economic growth to Ireland," said Kenny Jacobs, CEO of daa.
"As it stands, Dublin Airport has room to grow and could comfortably accommodate 35 million passengers per annum with the current infrastructure, but we now face a period of stalled growth as we continue to adhere to the annual terminals cap of 32 million passengers," he added.
Meanwhile, today's figures show that 2.8 million passengers travelled through Cork Airport, making it the busiest year in its 62 year history.
The data shows that passenger numbers were up 25% on 2022.
"Cork Airport is the fastest growing airport in Ireland and Cork’s strategic location is proving very attractive from a traffic development point of view," Mr Jacobs said.
"The addition of five new summer routes and four winter routes contributed to Cork Airport’s strong growth, and the addition of these new routes was in direct response to the demand that exists in Munster and south Leinster for new and exciting destinations," he added.
