Dublin-based aircraft leasing company Avolon said that during 2023 it had ordered 200 new aircraft including 100 Airbus A321neo, 80 Boeing 737MAX and 20 Airbus A330neo planes.

In a trading update for the fourth quarter and full year of 2023, Avolon said it had delivered 43 new aircraft and transitioned 30 aircraft to a total of 22 customers.

The company also sold 31 aircraft during the year and ended 2023 with 25 aircraft agreed for sale, while it also entered into letters of intent for the sale and leaseback of 51 new planes.

By the end of the year, Avolon said it owned, managed and committed fleet of 1,035 aircraft, a 24% increase on 2022.

It also raised $4.9 billion of new debt across both the public and private markets during 2023.

During the fourth quarter of 2023, the aircraft leasing company said it added two new customers, giving it a total of 146 airline customers which operate in 65 countries.

Andy Cronin, CEO Avolon, said that strengthening market conditions allowed the company to place its orderbook and used aircraft at accretive lease rates while underwriting $4 billion of new volume through the sale and leaseback market.

"Our balance sheet scale allowed us to order a further 200 new technology aircraft which strengthens our delivery pipeline and growth into the next decade," the CEO added.
