Food service distributor Sysco Ireland has entered into an agreement to buy Ready Chef, a supplier of fresh and prepared produce to the food service industry.

Ready Chef generated €18.9 million revenue last year, and employs 100 people at its depot in Glasnevin, Dublin.

"The acquisition of Ready Chef allows us to broaden our range and service capability in the fresh and prepared produce category and solidify our position as the industry leader in fresh foodservice on the island," said Mark Lee, CEO of Sysco Ireland.

"Sysco Ireland evolved from a family-owned business, and we are committed to accelerating Ready Chef’s growth while preserving their family business legacy," he added.

Me Lee said the move will deliver better value and choice to customers.

Following the completion of this transaction, he said Ready Chef will function as an independent division of Sysco Ireland.

Ready Chef specialises in the supply of fresh and prepared fruit and vegetables to all parts of the Irish food service sector.

Founded by William Tallon Senior in the 1960s, the company has been run by his sons David and William since 1990.

"Having built a family business over the last 40 years with my brother David, it is important for us to secure its long-term future," said William Tallon, Managing Director of Ready Chef.

"By joining the Sysco family, we are confident we are achieving that.

"Together with Sysco Ireland we will continue to grow Ready Chef in the prepared fruit and vegetable sector of the food service market," he added.

The acquisition is subject to Competition and Consumer Protection Commission approval.
