An Post has reported a gender pay gap of zero for the third year in a row.

The company said there was a 7% increase in new female employees in 2023 as well as 30% growth in female representation within senior management since 2019.

There was also an increase in female postal operatives between 2022 and 2023, rising from 13% to 14% of all postal operatives.

An Post CEO David McRedmond said he was very proud of the collective efforts in maintaining the zero gender pay gap for a third year.

"The work that has gone into achieving this milestone but more importantly, the work that goes into maintaining and improving on it year on year should absolutely be commended," Mr McRedmond said.

Companies with 250 or more employees will be publishing their latest gender pay gap reports over the coming weeks.

This is the second year in which larger firms will have to release details of the pay differential between male and female employees.

The gender pay gap reporting obligation will extend to employers with 150 or more staff in June of next year and to those that employ 50 or more in June 2025.

Recent analysis by Deloitte found an overall 13.3% mean gender pay gap and a median pay gap of 10.2%.

The mean pay gap is the difference between the average hourly rate of pay for women, compared to the average hourly rate of pay for men whereas the median pay gap represents the difference in hourly pay between the middle-placed woman and the middle-placed man.

Lidl Ireland today announced a mean gender pay gap of 7%, a fall of 11% compared to last year.

The retailer said its median gender pay gap has decreased from 4.1% to 2.8%, marking a 31% decrease year-on-year.

"We have been laying the foundation to lower our mean gender pay gap for many years now, and have launched several colleague initiatives to reduce obstacles and provide stepping stones and dissolve barriers for females during every life stage," said Maeve McCleane, Chief People Officer & Board Executive at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland.
