Irish mortgage rates 6th highest in euro area

The average interest rate on a new mortgage here increased from 4.1% in August, to 4.3%.

Irish mortgage interest rates increased in September, new figures from the Central Bank show.

The average rate on a new mortgage here increased from 4.1% in August to 4.3%.

This means Ireland now has the 6th highest rate in the euro area, up from 11th the previous month.

The euro area average rose from 3.95% to 4%.

Latvia had the highest rate in September at over 6%, while Malta had the lowest at under 2%.
