An Post said it expects to deliver over 10 million packages nationwide over the coming weeks in the run up to Christmas.

Over 100,000 parcels will be delivered daily, with that figure multiplying closer to Christmas, An Post added.

An Post said it has just added 45 Volkswagen ID Buzz vans to its electric vehicle (EV) fleet, which it said marks another milestone in its sustainability journey.

30% of An Post's delivery routes are now covered by electric vehicles. This will be increased to 32% by the first quarter of 2024.

In its efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030, An Post said the new, larger Buzz fleet will significantly reduce its contribution to carbon emissions, making a positive impact on the environment.

1,000 of An Post's 3,600 vehicles are electric, making the company the biggest electric vehicle fleet operator in Ireland.

With the introduction of its new Buzz fleet, this number will increase to 1,250 by the start of next year.

David McRedmond, the chief executive of An Post, said the rollout of the new Buzz fleet shows the company's ongoing commitment to a sustainable future for all.

"We're excited about the positive impact it will have on our environment and the communities and customers we serve as we continue to reduce our carbon footprint and improve the quality of life in Ireland, now and for generations to come," the CEO added.
