'Robin Hood' home in North Wexford opens as film studio

The former Wexford home of renowned English film and television actor Richard Green has commenced operations as a film studio.

Tara Studios has announced the opening of its Location Base and Production Offices offering at Borleagh Manor, which is set in a 154 acre private estate near Inch in North Wexford.

An Bord Pleanála gave the the go-ahead last year for a €20 million film studio to be built at the site.

Construction of seven new sound stages extending to 150,000 square feet as well as an additional 90,000 square feet of offices is due to commence early next year.

27,000 square feet of existing production space is now open to international and domestic film and television productions.

Once completed, Tara Studios is expected to be one of the largest film studios in Ireland.

Tara Studios was established by the former chief executive of Pinewood Studios, Ivan Dunleavey, and film tax accountant and movie financier, John Gleeson.

Borleagh Manor was previously owned by actor Richard Greene, star of the 1950s television series, The Adventures of Robin Hood.

He also appeared in more than 40 films.
