Energy company Flogas Ireland has invested €4m in its LPG tanker fleet, with the purchase of 17 new vehicles.

The company said its entire fleet now runs on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil.

The Flogas fleet of road tankers travel over 2.5 million km annually and the switch to HVO reduces the fleet's carbon emissions by up to 90%.

The investment also covers the installation of diagnostic and tracking software for road safety.

Flogas is part of DCC and employs 350 people with an energy portfolio of LPG, renewable electricity, natural gas, biogas, solar and related services for residential, SME and large commercial customers across the island of Ireland.

Its business units include bioenergy Clearpower, Budget Energy and Flogas Enterprise, which was formerly known as Naturgy Ireland.

John Rooney, managing director of Flogas Ireland, said the company's multimillion investment in its tanker fleet and the switch to HVO marks its dedication to the highest standards of road safety.

"It is a significant milestone on our journey towards a more eco-conscious future and we are proud to be taking an industry leading position in this area," he added.
