New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the number of people taking the bus remained above pre-pandemic levels at the end of August.
In the week starting August 28, bus journeys in Dublin were 9% higher than in the same week of 2019.
Comparing the same week with 2022, the CSO noted that there was a 16% increase in the number of bus journeys in Dublin.
Outside of Dublin, the number of bus journeys jumped by 20% compared to 2019 and by 19% compared to the same time last year.
But the CSO figures show that this has not had much of an effect on car volumes, which are only down 1.3% on pre-pandemic levels.
Meanwhile, Luas journeys for the week under review were up by 13% when compared with the same week in 2022 but were down 6% on the same week in 2019.
Looking at the aviation sector, the CSO said the number of passengers at Dublin airport in August of this year was 12% higher than the same month last year and 1% higher when compared with the same month in 2019 - before the outbreak of Covid-19.
The CSO said that a total of 3,419,986 passengers were handled by Dublin airport in August of this year compared with 3,399,714 passengers in August 2019.
Today's figures also show that the number of passengers handled by Cork airport in August of this year was 14% higher than August 2022 figures and 3% higher when compared with same month in 2019.
