The Managing Director of AIB Capital Markets, Cathy Bryce, has been appointed the first female President of the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI).
Ms Bryce takes the place of Jim O'Keeffe, who left his position as Head of Retail at AIB earlier this year to pursue other opportunities.
His term was due to run until December of next year and Cathy Bryce will now serve as President until then.
"I am honoured to be appointed as the first female president of Banking & Payments Federation Ireland," she said.
"It is a time of great change across the sector and we have a growing diversity of membership that encompasses domestic and international banking as well as the growing fintech and payments industries."
"Following the recent successful migration of more than one million customer bank accounts from Ulster Bank and KBC, our focus remains on prioritising supports for our customers and communities."
Cathy Bryce joined AIB in 1996 after beginning her career in Morgan Stanley and then spending a period in ABN AMRO.
Since joining AIB she has held a number of top positions, in international and Irish lending.
Five years ago she left the bank to become Director of the National Development Finance Agency and NewERA at the National Treasury Management Agency.
But a year later in 2019 she returned to AIB as Managing Director of Capital Markets where she has remained since.
In this role she is a member of the Executive Management team and leads the corporate and business areas of the bank, including having responsibility for stockbrokers Goodbody.
Cathy Bryce is also a member of the Finance Committee of Trinity College and the Advisory Board of Trinity Business School.
She is also a member of the Diversity Committee for Leinster Rugby.
