A Government scheme to promote sustainable forest management has been approved by the European Commission under State aid rules.
The €45m plan aims to help landowners to put in place forest management that is economically, ecologically and socially sustainable.
This will be achieved through the promotion of the growth of forests, protection of biodiversity, soil and water quality and the adaptation of forests to climate change.
The scheme also aims to increase the ability of forests to capture carbon.
Recipients will receive direct grants covering up to 100% of their costs that are eligible.
Open to firms of all sizes in the sector, it will run until the end of 2027.
