The number of new home completions in the second quarter of this year fell by 3.5% to 7,353 from 7,619 the same time last year, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show today.
The CSO uses new connections to the electricity network as the basis for its statistics on new dwelling completions.
Today's CSO figures show that apartment completions fell 18.9% from the second quarter of 2022 to stand at 1,897 in the second quarter of 2023.
There was a small increase in both scheme and single dwellings, with a rise of 2% for scheme dwellings to 4,017, while single dwellings were up 7.2% to 1,439.
The CSO noted a decrease in completions in four regions, with the Mid-West seeing the steepest drop at 27.6%.
Falls were also registered in the Dublin (11.6%), Border (9%), and South-West (3.8%) regions.
The region with the biggest relative increase on an annual basis was the South-East (21.1%) with rises also in the Midlands (17.2%), West (5.1%) and Mid-East (4.7%) regions.
Today's figures show that the most completions in the months of April, May and June were in Dublin at 2,393 and the Mid-East at 1,708.
55.8% of home completions this quarter in these two regions, while 83.8% of apartment completions this quarter were in these two regions.
On a Local Electoral Area basis, the most completions in the second quarter of 2023 were in Glencullen-Sandyford where there were 548 completions.
This was more than double that in the second highest LEA - 210 in Lucan.
