Liam Smyth, director of Smyth's Toys retail chain dies

Tributes have been paid to Mayo businessman, Liam Smyth, who has died following an illness.

Mr Smyth, 60 and from Claremorris, was a director of the Smyth's Toys retail chain, along with a number of his brothers.

The company has grown from its beginnings in Claremorris, to be one of the largest retailers here and in the UK, with over 100 stores.

Mr Smyth was described by the local Chamber of Commerce as a leading figure in the business life of the town. In a statement, members paid tribute to his tireless efforts to improve the economy and amenities there.

Claremorris GAA said his passing was a huge loss to the town.

He is survived by his wife Anne and their five sons.
