The number of bus journeys in Dublin continued to exceed pre-pandemic figures in June, with an increase of 9% for the week beginning 26 June compared to the same week in 2019, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.
The number of bus journeys outside of Dublin for the week from June 26 also exceeded 2019 figures by 11%, the CSO said.
Luas journeys for the week under review rose by 25% and 7% compared to the same week in 2022 and 2019, respectively.
Meanwhile, today's CSO figures also show that air passenger numbers in June were up 15% and 1% compared with June 2022 and June 2019 respectively for Dublin, Cork, Knock and Shannon airports combined.
The number of passengers in Dublin airport in June was 14% higher than the same month last year, while there was no change compared with the same month in pre-pandemic 2019.
A total of 3,218,315 passengers were handled by Dublin airport in June of this year compared with 3,202,409 passengers in June 2019.
The number of passengers handled by Cork airport was 13% higher last month compared to the June 2022 figures, and unchanged when compared with numbers seen in the same month in 2019.
For Shannon airport, the number of passengers was 32% higher in June 2023 compared with June 2022 and 10% higher than June 2019.
Today's CSO transport figures also reveal that there were 11 fatalities on Irish roads in June of this year compared with 13 in June 2022 and 11 in June 2019.
