Danish home retail brand JYSK has said it plans to open a distribution centre in Ireland.

The company has called on commercial property owners around the Dublin area with sufficient space to contact the team.

It aims to have the new 50,000m2 logistics warehouse operational by the second half of next year.

It said the new distribution centre will provide better service and shorter delivery lead times.

"JYSK will make a significant investment in the new distribution centre to facilitate its 21 Irish stores and 30 UK stores, as well as supporting the brand’s ambitious expansion plans for Ireland and the UK over the next five years," the company said in a statement.

Last month, JYSK opened its 21st store in Ireland in Beacon South Quarter in south county Dublin.

The first JYSK store opened in Naas in 2019, and since then, the retailer has opened 20 stores in towns and cities across the country from Letterkenny to Youghal.

The company said it plans to open another ten stores by the end of 2024.

JYSK currently employs 256 people in Ireland, and the company recently announced a recruitment drive to fill 100 new jobs at the company in the next year.

"As our store footprint and customer base across Ireland and the UK continues to grow, now is the right time for us to develop a state-of-the-art logistics warehouse in Ireland to service this market and the UK," said Country Director for JYSK UK and Ireland, Roni Tuominen.

"The new warehouse will enable us to better serve our customers in terms of delivery lead times and stock management, as well as being able to increase the online assortment of product, especially mattresses in the sleep category.

"Stock will be delivered directly to the new distribution centre in Ireland, rather than via Denmark, reducing our carbon footprint in the process," he said.
