Irish cargo airline ASL Airlines is to let 28 pilots go as part of a reduction of its contracted pilot support in Europe.
The 28 pilots are based in Germany and are of various nationalities.
They are employed by a third-party contractor.
"Unlike scheduled passenger carriers, ASL Airlines does not operate fixed summer and winter networks," the company said in a statement.
"Our operations can change from time to time in accordance with the requirements of our cargo customers and our pilot numbers can fluctuate accordingly," the company added.
ASL said it is a matter of deep regret that the contracts are being terminated and the company added that it is very much aware of the impact on the pilots involved.
"However, we are very hopeful that the contractor will be able to reassign the pilots, and we will also prioritise these pilots for positions in ASL Airlines when we are recruiting," the company said.
